Two Historic Churches – or Maybe Three?

Two Historic churches sit on a cross roads facing each other. But upon closer inspection there are three.

Two Churches Road meets Lake Mead Road where Mt. Olviet UCC Church and Lower Bermudian Lutheran Church  face each other across the road.  Mt. Olviet was built in 1871, the Lutheran Church across the road just 8 years later in 1879.  Mt. Olviet was built as either a Congregationalist or Reform church.  I was about to leave after photographing them and noticed something interesting about a home next to the UCC Church.  Note the brickwork at the windows along the side and the roof.  Also note the second story windows, something I have never seen in a school.  The brick in this building appears to be softer, most likely older by 30-40 years than the two nearby churches.  Bricks were made nearby at time, both in New Oxford and Gettysburg, they were good brick but were not as carefully fired as the later ones.  Note the deterioration of the bricks on the front near the right corner above the front addition roof.
