Valentine day.

Valentine also said Valentine of Terni and Valentine of Interamna (Interamna Nahars, ca. 176 – Rome, 14 February 273) was a bishop and a Christian martyr. Revered as a saint by the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and later by the Anglican Church, is considered the patron saint of lovers. The oldest Valentine’s Day is an official document of the Church of secc.V-VI, where it appears his death anniversary. Still in sec. VIII another document tells us some details of the martyrdom, torture, decapitation night, the tomb by the disciples Proculo, Efebo and Apollonius, following the martyrdom of these and their burial.
Of noble family and was converted to Christianity and ordered the bishop of Terni in 197 just 25 years. Valentino was in the year 270 in Rome, came at the invitation of the speaker greek and latin craton, to preach the Gospel and convert the pagans. Invited by the Emperor Claudius II Goth to suspend the celebration of religion and to abjure their faith, refused to do so, even trying to convert the emperor to Christianity. Claudius II pardoned him from execution entrusted to a noble family. Valentino was arrested a second time under Aurelian, who succeeded Claudius II. The empire continued its persecution of Christians, and as the popularity of Valentine was growing, the Roman soldiers captured him and brought him out of town along the Via Flaminia to flagellated, fearing that the population could rise to his defense. He suffered martyrdom and beheading 14 February 273, at 98 years, at the hands of the Roman soldier Furius Placidus, the orders of Emperor Aurelian.
His remains were buried on the hill of Terni, LXIII mile of the Via Flaminia, near a cemetery. The place was built in the fourth century a basilica which now are kept enclosed in a reliquary, the relics of the saint. The relics seem to have been taken to the city by three disciples of the philosopher Craton, Apollonius, Efebo and prosecutors, converted by the future saint, and who were martyred for this theft.
