War
Brief analysis of warfare throughout the ages.
Beginning of Time
Most of us have heard of the story of Lucifer, and his downfall with the battle with God on High, but this is the advent of battle, war coming from the divine realms into the human realm.
War -a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air. Sun Tzu Said,” War destroys hundreds of families. out of every ten families, war leaves only seven, it empties the government’s warehouses”. Since War has so many horrid factors in it, the general populace despises it. Sadly, war is the most important skill in the nation, when two factions disagree, a conflict arouse and if it is not politically fought out, arms is necessary to subdue the other faction. Therefore, as Clausewitz said,” War is an extension of politics”. A mere disagreement that has no other option but to spill blood in the battlefields. We all now believe in the importance of war,now you must be wondering, so, how did they make the other person agree to them?, This is the study we will pry into.
Ancient Warfare
The Sumerian Phalanx is arguably the oldest form of formation. Composed of heavy infantry as shown on a stele of the ancients, the more mass the phalanx had, the more power. when two phalanxes clashed into each other, whoever held up the longest won, because when the center fell, or one of the flanks, the whole phalanx fell apart. Also, the phalanx was very vulnerable to flanking maneuvers from cavalry. Most western battles were fought this way. In the East, rapid troop deployments and sieges were most common, and the crossbowman under the emperor Qin Shi-huang Dominated the battlefield as swarms of arrows rained down on enemies. Since the Cavalrymen still had no stirrups, it was a predominate scouting force.
Medieval Warfare
Warfare during this era manifested in Europe as predominately castle and siege warfare, but also the use of heavy cavalry to subdue the enemy force, Chivalry emerged during this period, although kings and noblemen loved the concept of the knight in shining armor, most disciplined steady infantry could take down the heavy armored knights if they were in a phalanx. Also, artillery emerged in this era as it was becoming more and more necessary to knock down fortifications that were ever improving. In the East, the Mongols nomads developed horse-cavalry, but this was no ordinary horse-cavalry, the Mongols spent most of their entire lives dedicated to horseback riding and archery. Aside from that, they also used scimitars and lances, at their peak, the Mongols conquered over 1/12th of the Earth’s landmass.
