What Makes a Sword, the Sharp Thin Blade?
The weapon you nearly always see in a medieval age movie is explained.
The sword is rarely thought of when you think of soldiers and millitary weapons but centuries ago, they were the most versatile weapons ever used. Since the Bronze Age humans have made metal weapons used for the purpose of hunting. However these weapons were not exactly swords, the bronze humans used was not strong enough to be used as the matal for the blade of the knife they used. Later they invented sturdy iron which allowed them to make the long blade.
They made other weapons like axes and warhammers. Still on later they created the compound of steel. This is where the sword started gaining most of its popularity. The steel was stong and didn’t bend as easily as it did with bronze and iron. It would be used in many wars too. After a long history the sword is rarely used for anything besides fencing and other sports. It is an artifact from the time of early weapons. It will still be the first thing you think of when you think of a medieval weapon.
