What Was The State of The Weimar Republic in 1924?

This is an essay about the Weimar Republic, or Germany in 1924.

In 1924 the Weimar Republics prospects looked good. Many of its major problems had been overcome. However, other problems were still lying below the surface.

By 1924 most of the political opponents of the Weimar Republic had been defeated. For example: the Spartacists were defeated in their rebellion by the Freikorps who followed Ebert’s orders.

By 1924 Weimar Germany’s economic situation looked promising. The following actions were taken. The, worthless, marks were taken in and burnt; a new currency was used, called the Rentenmark. The Dawes Plan meant they would get loans from America that they would invest in their economy. On the other hand, there were still areas of concern. America could run out of money and Germany would be unable to repay its loans.

By 1924 the Weimar Republic could claim to have the support of most Germans. This can be seen from, people resisted the Kapp Putsch in 1920 to keep the Weimar Government. People also supported passive resistance. Although, there were several groups who had reasons to oppose the republic, or not support it strongly. For example, the people who wanted the Kaiser to return, the Weimar was democratic and the Kaiser wasn’t.

By 1924 Germany also had better relations with its former enemies. For example, America – The Dawes Plan, Germany received loans for America.

In conclusion, it is fair to say that the state of the Weimar Republic in 1924 was mixed. On the positive side it had over come all its problems – economic, rebellions and it had gained a lot of support.
