What Will People of The Future Think of 2000-2009

With 2010 around the corner, I cannot help but look back at this decade with a sense of nostalgia and a sense of wonder as this decade truly had some interesting events. As a History Major, I cannot help but look back at the Top Ten Events this decade is going to be remembered for as this era in time really left a lasting impression on us all as there were many events that truly found themselves in the History Books. Therefore, I have decided to look back into this decade and bring up five events that many people will think of when they imagine the time from 2000 to 2009.

 I name in no particular order the most memerable moments in this decade’s history:

6. The Terrorist Attacks of 9/11

   Think about it, this one event DEFINED the decade! When one things of 9/11, instantly the plane crashing into buildings, the World Trade Center collapsing and all the publicity come to mind. Even as I write this, I still can recall the thoughts and feelings of that one day that forever changed America, and the World.

5. Youtube

Before there was ever Youtube, there was Funniest Home Video, now because of this site, we can sit back and watch people not only make complete asses of themselves, but as watch people debate, entertain and even go as far as to capture their beloved pets on camera! However, some people tend to become celebrities on Youtube over night! Whether its defending pop stars or the episodic adventures of some guy name Fred, you can bet the with Youtube, even you can make entertaining videos!

4. Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, and other forms of Social Networking

Say goodbye to making friends on the street, now we can make them all over the world with such sites as Myspace, or we might go as far as to reconnect with old friends with Facebook! And if we are feeling lucky, prehaps we could Tweet about our day to day lives on Twitter or blog about it!! Just make sure there are no sickos lurking about looking for children to hurt.

3. Political Correctness

Oooooops! Better watch what you say or the Government will step in and tell you how “Politically Incorrect” you are! Personally, I find the entire idea of Political Correctness to be hypocrital as it prevents certain people from saying certain things. I do not know about you, but whatever happened to Freedom of Speech?

2. Celebrity Death and Scandal

From 2000 to 2009, Hollywood was marked with a scandal there or a death over there. It just wasn’t a great time for Hollywood as many celebrities sadly passed on and are no longer here to join us in 2010.

1. Climate Change, Epidemics, and an Economic Slow Down.

Is it just me or is it getting hot in here? Or am I getting cold? I do not know, however many people talked about how there was Climate Changes around the globe affecting life on this planet as we know. While some people believe Climate Change to be Fact and some believe that it’s a load of nonsense, one thing we can all agree on is let us AT LEAST do something about it regardless! As for SARS, the Bird and Swine Flus, they taught us the importance of being healthy and not getting sick. Lastly, the fact our World Economy has taken a hard hit has shown us that History could be on its way to repeating itself as the last time there was a Global Economic Meltdown, Goose Stepping Fascists took power in Europe causing a War. Let us just hope that another thing like that does not happen.

What will 2010-2020 bring? I do not know, I just hope that things are much better than they were in this Decade and what will history think of the upcoming decade? As the old saying goes, only time will tell.
