Where Did the Olympic Games Came From?
A Brief Story of the Olympic Games.
The Olympic games originated in Greece. Ancient Greeks held Olympic games every four years. This game was considered as the best known sporting event in their time. The game was considered as a religious festival in honor of Zeus. During the game, all trading activities and fighting were stopped.
The first Olympic game was recorded in the year 776 B.C. Athletes all over Greece came to participate in the Olympic. The women were not allowed to participate even as expectators. They can participate only in the games honoring the goddess Hera, held in different locations rather than Olympia.(eleven2)
Usually, competitions in the Olympic games took form in individual rather than in team events. The winners were regarded as heroes, they were crowned with wreaths, olives lives and they held parade in their honors. Some Greeks cities excused the winners from paying taxes. Today the Olympic games is still an event celebrated every four years but not as a festival for the Greek deity Zeus. It is now celebrated to promote friendship among nations throughout the world.
