Why Would You Discourage Latinos From Voting?
A Sad Day, and a Slap in the Face to Any Latino that Wants to Vote ..
So the only way that Latinos can send a clear message to Democrats who did not deliver their bill of goods to the Latino community is to sit out the midterms? I am not offended by the ad because it targets Latinos, I am offended by the ad because it insults those voters intelligence. I realize that a lot of Latinos supported Barack Obama and helped put his campaign over the edge but I do not think that encouraging Latinos to pull back from the political process by sitting out the midterms is a smart move.
This is the same argument Blacks use when they don’t become part of the process. When Blacks and Latinos actually voted, something happened for a change in this country. Now whether or not that change was actually positive remains to be seen. But we were able to throw a wrench into the program, something that we were not able to do when Bush was reelected for his second term. If Latinos sit out on the political process now they will only do so at their own detriment.
The idea is that neither Republicans or Democrats are working in the best interests of Latinos. But what about all of the Latinos that are already in the federal government? Is there no one working for Latinos, including other Latinos? It doesn’t say much about the state of affairs today, and sheds a cloud of doom, negativity, and cynicism to ponder why it has even come to this point. You also have to wonder, since Latinos are the largest minority in America, why conditions are not any better than they already are politically. Latinos need to vote in the midterms and again in 2012. They can already look and see what happened with other communities, when you remain indifferent and cynical about the political process …
