A brief summary of the events that played out during World War II.

In September 1939, World War 2 started when Germany invaded Poland under Adolf Hitler’s rule. In response to this, Britain and France declared war on Germany but took no action for some time. In 1940, Germany attacked Denmark and soon after attacked Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. They were all quickly taken. The German’s first loss was the Battle of Britain. They attacked Britain with Germany’s air force, The Luftwaffe but were over come by Britain’s Royal Air Force. Italy, who was Germany’s ally, invaded Greece and North Africa. Greece pushed Italy back and Germany had to come to Italy’s aid at South Africa.

On December 7 1941, the Japanese (who were allied with Germany) sent a surprise attack on the U.S Navy base, Pearl Harbour with warplanes. The attack provoked the U.S to declare war against Japan. In 1942, America and Japan had some naval battles which resulted in the Battle of Midway in June, 1942, and was a big victory for America and Japan suffered some heavy losses.

In late 1941, Germany made the biggest mistake yet. They invade the USSR. They advanced into Germany with speed at first but in 1944 the Germans had to retreat out of Russia. In 1944 was D-Day. This is when the Britain and America invaded France (which the German’s had taken) from Normandy. The Allies took back France. The German’s where getting attacked on the east and the west by the Allies and were forced to surrender in 1945. That is the basic timeline of WW2.
