World War One

Nationalism was a Cause of WWI as the “Great powers” thought they deserved to be more powerful than all the other countries. This leads to a great deal of Rivalry over Industry, military and colonies which created tensions as each country tried to out-do the other. There was always big tension between the countries that wanted, and felt that they had the right to be the best, this happened a lot between Germany and Britain, as Germany was becoming more and more powerful, Britain thought they were inclined to be better than Germany, and so the beginning of the rivalries started.

Imperialism was another cause of WWI as the Competition for colonies became increase between countries of Europe and Germany the countries became less trusting of one another and this creating another tension as the fight for colonies was now at risk.

Economic rivalry also plays apart in the starting of WWI, as Germany was starting to build and construct there industry and make a stronger force, Britain became very concerned and threatened by this and started to doubt there trust with Germany and increase there suspicion

Militarism was another cause of WWI as this was the start of the arms race, the race that led all countries wanting and getting, bigger and better weapons. Germany was one of the first countries to gain access to better weapons leaving France very anxious. There was a terrorist group the “black hand” who made a plan they named the “Schliefen” plan to assassinate the arch duke of Austria and air to the throne Franz Ferdinand

Alliances were also contributed in the build up to the war, as France allied itself to Britain and the later onto Russia.

To conclude all of these are put into place to form a great deal of tension and suspicion between countries, but when Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, it was at the peak of tension and War was declared between Europe and Germany in 1912.
