Would You Fight for Your Country?
A personal look inside myself, and the thought of the return of conscription in Great Britain.
Would you fight for your country?
Would I fight for my country? In my opinion as a working class U.K. citizen of 45 years, I would have to answer honestly, “I would like to expect that I would” Now that is a darn honesty answer, I could have said of course I will.
However if we are going to have an honest from the heart answer then that’s it “I would like to expect I would” Please hold onto that thought. When I considered my answer I was not talking about bravery or cowardice. I am talking about the will to fight to preserve my country “Great Britain”
Conscription acts have been passed by governments all over the world regardless of being Communist or Capitalist or even Dictatorships. Conscription basically means the government of your country will order you to enlist in one of the military forces, whether it is the Army, the Navy, or the Air force. Conscription acts are normally only passed as a last resort by any government.
Conscription acts usually are passed in times of World Wars or in anytime your countries borders are threatened. I would like to focus on “Voluntary enlistment” If a government is getting enough volunteers to for fill its military needs it will not issue a Conscription order.
The largest conflict ever fought in living memory is the First World War 1914-1918 this war truly was fought around the globe. British men volunteered to enlist in the military in there millions! Not thousands but millions. Lord Kitchener famous poster “Of your country needs you” worked!

The poster worked.
Whole areas of British towns enlisted on mass. The unprecedented slaughter of thousands of infantry troops didn’t stop the volunteers enlisting. It was only in the latter stages of WW1 was conscription introduced. Britain had a huge respect for the Royal Family and their King. Pride in Great Britain was almost unanimous across Britain.

Your claim that this article is not targeting specific groups is quickly shown to be untrue in the sentences that follow it. The UK always had immigration of non-English speakers due to their imperialistic tendancies. What you term unpatriotic is actually people realising that nations are not real and patriotism is a lie.

Yes of course and especially when things are going on bad. In my own country, I am doing the fight of exposing the bad leaders and sharing my post to the outside world. I do more on orientation of the young and the old alike by teaching and empowering them for future hope for a better change. We need change and so can’t fold our arms.
Thanks for the lovely post.

It’s all different now Lord Banks. Our government here in the USA is not the same, our politicians, bankers and people on Wall Street have “raped, pillaged and plundered” their own people, we have no trust now. Our country swells with immigrants who bleed our welfare and medical systems dry. We, who sometimes need help or a break, don’t get one and now they are speaking of cutting costs to the very necessary Medicare and other programs that will only hurt disabled/retired Americans because they are trying to pass a ridiculous and costly health care bill. Those who do not buy this medical plan will be fined hundreds of dollars! As I said, it is not the same here. Would I fight for my country, I just don’t know in my feelings-maybe as a nurse had I been younger, but as a now disabled person, I have lost a lot of faith in my country and I pray that Obama will only be a one term president!
Thanks for your Lord’s prayer, I am recuperating nicely!

You make quite good points. My husband did 20 years in the Navy but todays Navy is not the same one he was in.
