Zeus and Hera

Zeus and Hera are similar in spirit, but are very different from each other. Zeus is god of all gods and strong, and Hera is the goddess of all gods and extremely witty. Zeus must use his strength to other throw Cronos, whilst Hera tries to achieve justice with Zeus after he, her husband, cheated on her multiple times. Zeus and Hera both contain strong leadership skills and like to bring justice to wrongs. Confess

Though Zeus and Hera are very different gods, they have their similarities. One of these similarities are that they are both very strong-willed and possess an extremely bad temper, though they differ in intelligence level. When Zeus was unhappy that Cronos swallowed his brothers and siblings, he concocts a drink for Cronos, which makes Cronos vomit the siblings back up. Then, he gathers his cousins and siblings and overthrows Cronos. Hera is furious that Zeus is cheating on her with many different women, and binds Zeus and steals his thunderbolt. “She drugged his drink; they surrounded him as he slept and bound him with rawhide thongs” (Evslin, 7). Both Zeus and Hera feel strongly, and both will go to any measure to try to bring justice to wrongdoing. A difference in Zeus and Hera are their level of intelligence. Both are gods and both are smart, but Hera is much more intelligent. Hera plans out how she will tie Zeus, and tactfully drugs his drink. She also takes his Thunderbolt, thinking of all possibilities. Zeus, however, when overthrowing Cronos, gathers his cousins and charges into battle without a plan. They have different ways of going about creating justice.

Zeus and Hera both are naturally leaders, but Zeus believes he is better than others, whilst Hera does not. When Hera plotted against Zeus and persuaded other gods to help her, her helpers dubbed her the leader and followed Hera’s instructions. When Zeus plotted against Cronos, his brothers, sisters, and the Titans all followed Zeus without question. These leadership qualities help Zeus and Hera maintain the role of “the god of gods” and “the goddesses of goddesses”.

Though they both are strong leaders, Zeus and Hera valued themselves differently. Zeus loved the feeling of importance and being the king of all kings. When the gods chose the different regions of the land (the sky, the sea, the underworld), Zeus chose the sky because he loved looking down on the world. “Poseidon smiled to himself because the sky was empty, and he knew that the impulsive Zeus had chosen it because it looked so high” (15). Hera, however, does not value herself higher than other Gods. She sets Zeus in his place when Zeus felt he was so important he could have multiple lovers. To conclude, Zeus and Hera are both naturally leaders and have a difference in self-importance.

The stories of Zeus and Hera contain both leadership and a strong sense of justice, and differ in intelligence level and self-importance. They are the god and goddess of all gods and goddesses and fight for what they believe in, though Hera is much more intelligence than Zeus and is not as self-centered. From the stories of Zeus and Hera, we can learn the consequences of being self-important, and recognize leaders everywhere. Through them, we can learn how to become better people ourselves.
