Zhao Yun

History of Zhao Yun.

Zhao Yun as you may or may not know was a real person, not just a character from a video game series. He was a general who served Lui Bei in the 3 Kingdoms Era. He was also one of the Five Tiger Generals.

Zhao Yun was born in the Zhending county of Changsan. He signed up under Gongsun Zan. In 192 he was placed under the command of Lui Bei. Lui Bei was in control of several thousand Wuhuan cavalry and placed Zhao Yun in command of them. Unfortunately Zhao Yun had to leave both Lui Bei and Gongsun Zan to tend to his elder brother’s funeral.

Zhao Yun rejoined Lui Bei in the year 200 after Cao Cao defeated Lui Bei. Lui Bei sent Zhao Yun to recruit men to fight in his army so that he could rebuild it.

In 202, Zhao Yun took place in the Battle of Bowang against Xiahou Dun, a general of Cao Cao’s. Zhao Yun captured Xiahou Lan, a childhood friend. Zhao Yun pleaded for Lan’s life and Lui Bei made him the army judge.

During the year 208, the Battle of Changban took place. Zhao Yun was especially important in this battle. While Lui Bei was retreating, he left his family behind. Scouts reported that Zhao Yun had disappeared in the north and had probably surrendered to Cao Cao. Lui Bei, unbelieving was proved right when Zhao Yun came riding to him with his son, Liu Shan, and his wife, Lady Gan.

In 229, Zhao Yun died at Hanzhong. The whole Shu army grieved for him.
