‘Tis the Season for Snowmen!

It is a childhood rite of winter to make snowmen. With Christmas break coming up, more and more will be seen very shortly. Any home with children would be remiss to not have at least one snowman standing vigil. Nearly universally all of the same design, they stand silent hoping to not be knocked down by the neighborhood bully.

Not A Snow Dome

In the northern hemisphere it is such a commonplace thing to see snowmen in yards and playgrounds where children congregate and play. A large ball of snow, -generally the largest snowball that you can still roll around will determine this lower body size. Followed by a second snowball which would be roughly the largest that you can lift to the height of that first, heaviest snowball that you can roll. Followed by a snowball that you can place on top of all three. Voila! You have made a snowman! A bit of sculpting for uniformity and packing by hand with clean snow to fill-in any crevices or conclaves, and you have the general shape.

Wrap a scarf around the snowman’s neck maybe, add two lumps of coal for eyes and a carrot or pine cone for a nose, maybe add some more coal for buttons on an otherwise invisible coat and two sticks for arms and you are done!

Snowman Gingerbread Cookies

Gingerbread just seem to catch the holiday spirit best and in the form of a snowman cookie, -all the better! White sugar-frosting icing (and maybe gumdrops for buttons) and you have the quintessential snack cookie of the holidays. What would Christmas Eve be for Santa if there were not a gingerbread man cookie and a glass of milk waiting for him at every child’s home? Imagine the child’s wonder and excitement on Christmas morning to not only see loads of gifts and goodies under the tree, but to see a large bite or two missing from the cookie offering left for him before early bedtime the night before? And the glass of milk? Half emptied of course!

Recycle Today for a Brighter Future Tomorrow

This is a very practical and ingenious solution to empty plastic water bottles. A small cafe in Rorschach, Switzerland is where this snowman hails. I bet that this would look amazing if Christmas lights were strung around inside of this, maybe one mini-light per bottle? Naw… that would just be tacky.

Desperado snowman

“-Give me all your gumdrops and nobody gets hurt!” is what this armed and desperate cartoon drawing might be saying.

Inflation Hits Us All Hard

But you could hit this inflated snowman hard and it would not hurt nor injure him. These types of holiday displays are very common here in North America and are sold in just about every chain retail store.

Fu Manchu Close-Up

I love this!! This clearly Chinese-looking man of mystery snowman is very well made. I used to love watching those old ‘Fu Manchu’ evil criminal genius movies on television when I was much younger. I guess that is why I love this silly snowman image so much. What evil plot is he planning…

All Dressed Up And Going Nowhere…

This wire or reed snowman is lit to the hilt in holiday style and spirit. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t fall into the lake, -those lights are electric…

I like enough snow to make a good snowman and have a snowball fight but I am so glad we don’t have that much snow very often. It’s a rarity here in Georgia.

    Really good and very humorous.
I know whjat the desporado snowman is really saying though: “Arggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh my body where did it go?”

Fu Manchu was my favourite. Blimey, those films used to scare me as a child!

Nice article, stickman. I’m not sure how I missed this one. I usually read them all. I love the recycle man and I like your minilights idea. As long as they are all white lights, I don’t think it would be too tacky. :)
