76% of Bulk Halloween Candy Poisoned?
Don’t worry: the rumors are not true.
In 2008, a few lollipops in Florida where found to have metal razor blades embedded into them. The tampering was not done in the US, and it was determined that the tampering occurred in China where they where manufactured. Could something as bad as this go large scale? Should parents have to worry about there child’s safety on Halloween? The answer is no, parents have nothing to worry about. As I said before, there have been cases of harmful candy in the past, but it was always really small scale. When this has happened, it has always been just a couple pieces affected.
If something this horrendous did go large scale, the government would probably take care of it very quickly. For example, if 76% of bulk Halloween candy was suddenly found to be poisoned, there would be a mass re-call, and it would be taken off all shelves before anyone would have the chance to get hurt. So if it is not a big deal, then why has there been panic about this issue in the past? The reason is the media. All through the 1980s, media outlets blew up any story they could find about poisoned candy. The stories talked about parents who fed their kids poisoned candy to reap the benefits of their life insurance later.
All this said, the reality is this: there have been no reports of any injuries or death surrounding the topic of poisoned candy. So this Halloween, you have nothing to worry about.
