A Great Way to Count Down to The Birth of Jesus
Using an advent calendar creatively, makes it so much fun to look forward to His special day.
This is the time of year to print out ,use advent calendars, or even try to create something unique as an advent calendar. Advent calendars are a wonderful way of counting down to the birth of Jesus. I strongly urge you to remain as environmental as possible when making an advent calendar from home, or purchasing one.
I have found an extensive list of advent sites to either download or print a calendar, or use one they have online. I strongly urge you to use recycled paper, and try to find recycled items from home if it requires materials. It might say felt in the instructions, but if you have an old pair of jeans about to be landfill, use that instead.
About. Com has an extensive list of advent calendars to choose from. Ones that are either printable or even ones you can make out of fabric. The advent collage and advent good deed jar, look very interesting and fun and to do.
Bookwala has an advent calendar online which is an environmental choice due to not using any paper or crayons.
You can also take the month of December on your own calendar and turn it into an advent calendar. Making an advent calendar unique from the ones with candy behind the door, you could write a scripture verse each day on the calendar leading up to the birth of Jesus. Placing it into a frame to hang on the wall is an added touch.
Another worthy idea to consider is making one from fabric, and you could reuse it every year. You could sew pockets onto a fabric advent calendar instead of the door, with a piece of chocolate inside of the pocket along with a good deed to accomplish for the day.
Consider an alternative to using regular colored crayons, and switch to soy crayons instead. Regular crayons are toxic for children to use due to the petroleum in the product.
Use recycled products and paper as much as you can. Many second hand stores even sell pieces of fabric, or old blankets not in the best of shape, that you can turn into something else such as an advent calendar.
Get creative with using advent calendars, but always consider the environment at the same time. Natural adhesives and natural glues are also available for crafting.
