A New Year Resolution: Say No to Plastic Bag

Hope saying NO to plastic bag will be included in our New Years resolution.

The year 2010 is fast approaching. And it is time for the New Year’s tradition: writing a New Year’s resolution.

Before you get yourself to list stuffs like saving money, losing weight or whatever why not put saying NO to plastic bag in your list.

Climate change is not a thing in the future anymore, it is at present.  Governments from all over the world are taking measures regarding this matter but why wait for your government when you can help.

We all know the harmful effects plastic bags are to our environment like killing wildlife. In water, birds, whales, seals and turtles ingest the bags then die from intestinal blockages for they mistakenly thought the bags were jelly fish. The victim will decompose but the plastic bag will not and can harm another life. It is believed that plastic bags decompose from 500 to 1000 years (it lives longer than us).

A little example is when you buy medicines in the drug store. You can say NO to plastic bag by telling the pharmacist or store clerk that you would just be carrying the medicine, put it on you bag or something.  Or when you buy food in McDonalds, you can hold on to the cup and not let it be in another plastic bag if you’re going to drink it already or better yet bring your own cup if possible. By saying to No to at least one plastic bag a day, you saved 365 plastic bags a year. Just by our little ways we can save thousands of lives and Earth for our kids.

Another way to help is information dissemination. By telling our family and friends to do the same then we are making little steps to save our environment. So start making your resolution now and put this on top of your list. Let us all welcome 2010 with an  environment friendly mindset.  Happy New Year!
