A Valentine Bouquet
A collection of roses and the meanings behind them.
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching I thought about the rose which is the flower that is mostly used for this occasion. So much that it becomes the busiest day of the year for any flower shop. Did you know that the color of the rose represents something different for each color? I found it interesting to know the traditional meaning behind each one. So here is my collection.
THE RED ROSE

This rose of course is the meaning of love. It is the best known and the most popular of all the roses. It has a long history attached to love and romance. They are also known as the classic rose. Regardless of what we read whether it is poetry, song or novel it is not hard to imagine a full red rose.
THE PINK ROSE
This rose is very versatile and can be given for a number of reasons. Pink roses can be sent as a thank you or an “I’m thinking of you”. These are the roses that are perfect for almost any occasion; you can give these to anyone. There are many different shades of pink but usually people give the color to suit the personality of the one that’s receiving them.
THE WHITE ROSE

The white rose is the symbol of purity and true love. If you know you have found the love of your life, white roses says it all. It is the ideal rose to give to a fiancé, for an anniversary, for the birth of a child and especially for a bride’s bouquet. You can never go wrong with the white rose as a gift it will match any décor that the person may have.
THE YELLOW ROSE

This rose says loud and clear “friendship”. The yellow rose is such a cheery flower that most people enjoy getting them for any occasion. This flower is used for those that have found happiness or good fortune. They are the perfect flower for a graduation or any event that the recipient is gaining recognition.
THE ORANGE ROSE

The orange rose is very similar to the yellow rose. They can be given to anyone for any reason. If your friend is taking a trip, orange roses are the perfect parting gift. If someone is moving on to a new life and you want to give them a special something, to encourage them, then the orange rose is just what you need.
NUMBER OF ROSES GIVEN:
It is important when you order roses to know how many to give. Here is a list of what each number means.
1 Rose- You are the one for me or love at first sight.
2 Roses- When there is a mutual attraction.
3 Roses- No doubt about these they say “I love you”.
4 Roses- Have no particular meaning.
5 Roses- Have no particular meaning.
6 Roses- Again this says “I want to be yours”.
7 Roses- Means you are infatuated.
8-9- Roses have no meaning.
10 Roses- Means you are just perfect.
11 Roses- have no meaning.
12 Roses- this one says it all “Be Mine”.
There you have it, my collection of roses. Hope you enjoy. A word of warning; if someone you know or love prefers a certain color rose you should certainly stick to the color preferred has to follow the chart. It might be a little safer especially for husbands. Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone.

Hi Yaffel, excellent description of the significances of different roses. I think with only 6 months left ’til my wedding, that the white rose would be a great rose to give to Sarah. Thank you once again.
