All The Hype
What Valentine’s Day is really about…
Oh boy, the groundhog seen it’s shadow! Six more weeks of winter. President’s Day is right around the corner and what’s that I smell? Chocolate and flowers? Perfumes and lotions? And what from the corner of my eye do I spy? Glints of jewelry and pretty outfits?
Valentine’s Day. Like every other holiday from Christmas and Easter to Halloween and Thanksgiving. Another massive marketing trend that we have been force fed since I can remember.
OH! It’s Valentine’s Day! Got to go get your sweetheart a card that shows all the feelings you yourself COULD NOT write on a piece of paper. Let alone convey in mere words.
OH! It’s Valentine’s Day! Got to go buy her or him a box of chocolates to remind them how sweet you think they are or how sweet you want them to think you are. Chocolates? Seriously, just clean the bathroom and I’ll still love you.
Oh! It’s Valentine’s Day! Got to go buy her or him some expensive ring or necklace so when they wear it, they think about you and how much money you spent. He went to Jared or every kiss begins with Kaye. I’d never go to Jared, time is the best investment you can make and if your significant other doesn’t understand that, I say get a different one because she or he is a superficial man or material girl, not really into the true sacrifice of a relationship. Oh and every kiss begins with an ‘e’ for eat your frakkin heart out America.
The main point I’m trying to get across to anyone who reads this is first off, don’t be sore, I’m not hating holidays. I just think they have waned tremendously from what they were initially intended to be. Second, if you really want to impress your lover, and I mean REALLY make them feel worthwhile, do this: find the perfect location to have a quiet evening on a blanket to watch the sunset. Hand pick spring’s first flowers. Pack a picnic basket. And, tell them you love them and wouldn’t want to spend this TIME with anyone else. Which brings me to my third point, it’s not about the money, it’s about the time. You can buy them a heart shaped box of chocolates and while they’re being eaten, oh how lovely. But then they’re gone, where are you? It’s all temporary unless you’re willing to invest what love is truly made of and that my friends is the time. Time is money after all…
