His mother held up her sari as she ran long errands from one police station to another. It was a Friday afternoon and the Khans had just bought an outsized freezer, which was delivered to them immediately and set up. It was Friday – a day when all Muslims gather up at the mosque in order to pray to the Almighty and seek for his blessings.
Benjamin Khan (aka Benny) had just woken up from a siesta of 4 hours, as the six-year old had just laid his head onto his squashy cushion after staying put up in front of the television and watching ‘Oggy and the cockroaches’ (A cartoon show) all day and night long. The sunlight hours of the previous day (Thursday) was depleted on preparing for the “ace of naughtiness”’s birthday the day after (Friday). Benny woke up with a rounded face, and as usual, with a hint of melancholy. The chap was never in high spirits, no matter how much money was spent on him from a loaded man’s pocket (his father). Mom wished him happy birthday, and the spoiled gazelle hurried straight up to the dining table without even brushing his teeth first. He feasted like stunt dogs kept in prison for 30 days and not given food (he was not), and like every spoiled birthday boy, he passed on to his father his catalog of gifts that he planned for his birthday, and as promised, his father got ready for the gift shop, wearing his reserved suit. Benny sent his mom to order the football stadium-shaped cake that he willed for, and mother charged too. The lone members left inside the house were the heir to a million dollars and his aged, scatter-brained nanny, who he asked permission to go out to his friends’ house, while she couldn’t refuse her master who she was looking after. But Benny went for the useless knocks, as all his friends had gone out for prayer that day, and which obliged him to go too. He instructs his moneyed father to depart all the shopping and to come home immediately to take his son out for prayer. The nanny, Martha, was solicited for taking the toddler to the shower, as the roguish brat had a record of drowning into the deep bath tub once. Martha bathed him with an expensive baby shampoo gifted to Benny by his favored aunt. He was then mopped with a huge white towel when the hyper-active boy said that he was feeling warm enough to put in a chilly room. The maid knew of the air-conditioned room, but she always thought bigger. She never knew her large thoughts would lead the child to heaven so quickly. After wiping her up, she made him wear princely garments, showered him with body powder and to conclude, cooling him off even more, kept him in the large freezer. His father then came to escort his prince to prayer which was due in an hour. Dad asked Martha where his baby was, while the absent-minded nanny forgot all about that shower and the freezer and replied that he was at his friends’ house, where he was not to be seen. Within minutes, the couple rushed to every spot they could look for their infant and even lodged an unsuccessful police complaint. They went home and Mr. Khan went to open the freezer to grab a bottle of cold water for his wife when he found his lovely cute tot, stationary in that big fridge. The nanny was sentenced to hang till death.
