We should use first Sunday to redefine our relationship with God and how best to serve him. It is only in such a way that our first Sunday of the year can be beneficial to us.
Anything Special in First Sunday of the year?
Today, 5th January, 2014 is the first Sunday of the year, let have heard many people speak and comment about the first Sunday as a sspecial day in the respect that it starts the Sundays in the year. The way they emphasised it, it looks as if their being in the church on a day like that I’d key and pivotal to what they will become.
People are entitled to their opinions and believes. However, in the real sense of it, first Sunday of the year is same with every other remaining 51 Sundays of the year. That we flock to church on first Sunday of the year does not make any difference where we are or where God is. What makes the difference is our change of attitude, determinations and purposeful living. That blessings of new year are mostly pronounced on the first Sunday of the year does not mean that it is permanent.
We know of men and women in the scriptures who lost their salvation on their life’s journey. The story of Lot’s wife, Judas Iscariot, etc are well known to us. They started well and ended badly. When we emphasise the first Sunday of the year, we should not forget to include a determination for absolute commitment to God. We should not neglect the fact that we cannot wish ourselves into abundance life and glory in the beginning of a new year without a corresponding commitment, dedication to duty and obedience to God’s commandments. This is exactly what will make our new year and first Sunday of the year worthwhile.
Indeed, there is nothing so special in the first Sunday of the month more than all other Sundays. Therefore, we owe it a duty to redefine our lives and re-dedicate ourselves to serving God better. We should not just bank on the fact that being first Sunday will turn around our fortunes. We should use first Sunday to redefine our relationship with God and how best to serve him . It is only in such a way that our first Sunday of the year can be beneficial to us.
As you worship God today, what will be your aim? Will it be to rededicate your life to God? The choice is yours because God’s standard for blessing us can never change. I wish you a happy first Sunday in 2014.
