Arg, Nearly January? Skip New Year’s: Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Valentine’s Day Cards aren’t up yet in your stores? Don’t panic, they will be soon – and that’s no joke!

Yes, Christmas is past, New Years Day is nearly here and there are Valentine’s for sale. Okay, well, maybe not yet because the stores have to sell their leftover Christmas stock. Guaranteed, however, before the leftover Christmas stock is sold, the Valentine’s Day cards will be on the shelves as well as the cute little bears, the heart-shaped chocolates, and so many other big or little gifts that people give each other.

Sending messages of love on Valentine’s Day isn’t a bad thing but starting the whole commercialized thing this early can be a bit much. We all know that there is a not-so-secret agenda behind this. You see something, you think it’s cute, so you buy it for someone. A week later, you see something else, the same things happen. Before you know it, Valentine’s Day is here, you have fifty gifts purchased and only a few people to give them to. It happens every year for some people.

Each year, the stores seem to stock the shelves for the next holiday a little bit earlier. Does it really boost the sales? You wouldn’t believe by how much! Is it getting a bit ridiculous? Yes, probably but it still works every year.

This may not work because there would never be enough people to go along with it. Perhaps there should be a revolt against this type of shopping. Save the world from overspending by not making a big deal of these days. Send each other love messages throughout the year instead of just on Valentine’s Day. Make every day special and not just one. Try doing the nice little deeds for someone instead of spending the money!

What do you think? Worth the effort? Or maybe it’s just easier spending the money at that one time of year instead of making a person feel special every day of the year…

Well the stores aren’t wasting any time. They never miss an opportunity to make a buck. Then again, for a holiday that is supposed to be about love, there can be a lot of blood shed if you don’t get your significant other something. I think some point was missed.

Thanks for the comment. Getting something for a significant other on this day is a nice gesture and they are always appreciated but there is a lot of manipulation of society on these days. Sometimes the thought is worth more than an expensive gift. It also may depend on the person who is on the receiving end!!! Some people definitely do get in trouble if they try to go out of social norms or if there is something forgotten! This of course has to be taken into account!

You are right, before the week is out, the Valentine candies and cards will be on the shelves. I don’t really feel pressured to buy just because it’s there. I would much rather a guy bought me a single flower, as opposed to a dozen roses, which I think is a waste of money. If a person is with someone who’s caught up in the material things to the point of getting mad about a gift, then, they just might be with the wrong person. *shrugs*

It’s sad that it’s all become about gifts, cards and knick knacks. I personally don’t much like valentines day, and no it’s not because I am alone each year, but because someone shouldn’t be just showing more love on the one day, they should be doing it year round.

Dude! I once knew a hotel that never took of it’s Merry Christmas signs because they could not be bothered to. That way they would never miss advertising too late for Christmas

To be honest January is my favourite month of the year -no extra lightending in the strets, quiet at last, it’s my birthday and there’s also the intrigue to guess what the new year is going to be like. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, but I LOVE January. It’s my birthday month – and my son’s too.
    Great article.
