In an emergency appeal, lawyers for Michael Jackson sought medical overturn a judge’s refusal to isolate jurors, believing that they would be “poisoned” by the publicity during the trial for manslaughter.

Dr. Conrad Murray is accused of supplying Jackson overdose of the anesthetic propofol in this home just before the singer’s death in 2009. He said Jackson suffered from insomnia and was desperate to sleep. Murray has pleaded not guilty and, if convicted, he could be sentenced to up to four years in prison, AP said.
In a 28-page request filed just before the long weekend for Labor Day holiday, the lawyers challenged a recent ruling by Judge Michael Pastor in Los Angeles who expressed confidence in the ability of jurors to ignore advertising the highly publicized case.
Lawyers Nareg Gourjian and Edward Chernoff said in their petition that would be impossible for jurors to avoid learning of the news reports and comments unless they were held in a hotel during the trial of Murray. Admitted that it was an extraordinary request, but argued that Jackson’s condition as a global celebrity arouse extensive media coverage.
They predicted that the jurors will be inundated with reports in supermarkets, bars, gyms, cafes and the internet.
“News organizations are prepared for the court to the Rose Bowl,” the lawyers said in their application, referring to a major college football game in Southern California.
