Best Loved Christmas Cartoons of All Time

Kids have always enjoyed a treat of Christmas cartoons. They look forward to them along with the latest toys. These wonderful animated classics are also packed with well-known stars. Here is a list of the best loved Christmas cartoons of all time.

1. Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol (1962) — On the night before Christmas, a nearsighted miser Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Bachus), is visited by three ghosts who teach him to change his bad ways.

2. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) — The classic story of Charles Schulz’s Peanuts gang learns the true meaning of Christmas. It is one of the originals by the late creator Charles Schulz, with Charlie Brown and Snoopy.

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) — This is the original special version, based on the famous Dr. Suess book about the joy of Christmas and the exploits of The Grinch (Boris Karloff.)  It is still regarded the better version than the re-make.

4. Frosty the Snowman (1969) – A snowman is brought to life, but must travel north as rising winter temperatures threaten to melt him. He shows the kids the importance of being honest and what Christmas spirit means.

5. ‘Twas the Night before Christmas (1974) – A human family and a mouse family try to appease Santa Claus, who has been offended by a letter in the newspaper of the town. Joel Grey is Joshua Trundle.

6. A Flintstone Christmas (1977) — Another popular cartoon during its day, Fred and Barney step in to cover for Santa, and the begrudging replacement Santa learns a great lesson along the way. It’s a great family entertainment.

7. Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983) — Walt Disney’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, with an all-star cast of Disney’s famous characters including Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. It’s fun for everyone.

8. A Garfield Christmas Special (1987) — Jon owns a loving cat and a dog Odie. Together they travel to meet the family for that old-fashioned Christmas. There’s a lot of fun along the way with the cat and his pal, Odie.

9. The Simpson’s Christmas Special (1991) — Originally a part of other Christmas episodes, it now stands on its own. It’s been popular and has lots of humor.

10. Olive, the Other Reindeer (1999) — A dog must outsmart an evil postman to reach the North Pole and replace an injured reindeer. Drew Barrymore plays Olive.

11. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1998) — Rudolph is born with a red nose that causes him trouble as he is bullied through his younger years. When a bridge closes for public use threatening Santa out of business, our reluctant hero, Rudolph, enters the scene. .

Thanks Glynis, I too have great memories of Christmas cartoons. With special mention, I’m always been a fan of Schulz’s Peanuts and to this day, still collect his work. Cheers, Tel

    Dear Daisy,
Very glad to find you here. Is that different from “Frosty the Snowman” (#4), that you’re talking about?
    Cheers, Tel

I like this list! I grew up mostly watching Christmas cartoons during the \’70\’s and \’80\’s ( yes, I am old…lol ) but a few other cartoons that I loved to watch were the original Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer 1964 ( I was so afraid of that big, bad abominable snowman) , and \’Twas The Night Before Christmas 1974 ( with the little mouse family and the clocks and stuff ). I also liked Santa Claus Is Coming To Town 1970, and The Little Drummer Boy 1968. :P
