Some of the old legends concerning Halloween are true. Halloween isn’t just a holiday for dressing up in funny costumes and begging for treats; for some people the holiday means a lot more. According to the Humane Society and law enforcement agencies around the country there is a problem with finding mutilated, disemboweled, and mummified cats during this time of the year. 

One of the reasons why the increase in ritualistic cat death occurs is because of the cats association with the occult. Before the time that Christianity took root in Medieval Europe pagan religions were dominating the landscape. These practices involved a close connection with nature. Cats in general became closely associated with these type of religions. When Christianity started to thrive many pagan beliefs went underground because Christianity had forced them to do so. Anything that was associated with pagan practices were also condemned. Black cats were said to be connected with witches during this time and the church considered them to be evil.

Fast forward up to our present time and you’ll start to discover a disturbing trend that has been going on in our society for the last 30 or more years. The trend is the ritualistic abuse of cats. Most law enforcement agencies take this kind of abuse seriously because they associate animal abuse by individuals as a first step toward harming people in the future. Most cases are just not reported publicly because it just doesn’t make for good news. 

Many would be Satanist and “dabblers” are often cited with the abuse as well as witches themselves. Many shelters will not allow any black cats to be adopted during the month of October. Black Cats are not the only ones being prohibited from adoption during this time of year so are white cats and certain white breed of dogs.

Many people in todays society are avid pet owners and the best thing that they can do this Halloween season is to monitor their pets closely and make sure that they’re safe especially if they are high candidates to be used in ritual abuse during the Halloween season.
