Boxing Day

A poem about the holiday called Boxing Day. This day is the day after Christmas Day.

“Boxing Day is about the most useless holiday in Canada”,

Said Mr. Smith as he slammed the front door.

He kicked off his boots and shook the snow off his coat

“It is just an excuse for shopkeepers to make more money”

Boxing Day is about the most useful holiday in Canada.”

Said Mrs. Smith. as she put down her packages on the table

Of wrapping paper, and scarves and oddments.

“Everything is so much cheaper than before Christmas.”

“New Year’s Eve is the most irresponsible holiday in the world.”

Muttered Mr. Smith. “Full of parties and noise

And resolutions? Why even break your diet.

A week after Jan. 1st.”  Mr. Smith patted Mrs. Smith’s tummy.

“New Year’s Eve is the holiest day if you are Scottish

You sing Ole Lang’s Eie and you are given a brand new start.”

Said Mrs. Smith. “Besides, I am not the only one

Who could stand to lose a few pounds.”

And she bopped Mr. Smith’s head.
