Celebrate Mother’s Day

Your Mom deserves special love and attention this Mother’s Day, so read up on the holiday and find a creative way to celebrate the most important woman in your life.

  • Design a Scrapbook: Do you have a lot of photos of you and mother? Gather up those pictures and create a visual representation of your memories. Visit a craft store to pick up supplies.
  • Decorate a Flower Pot: If your mom tends to get a lot of flowers, seeds, or bulbs for Mother’s Day, maybe she’d appreciate a place to plant her presents. Pick up a clay pot from your local greenhouse or nursery and use acrylic paint to create a masterpiece. If you choose, you can also decorate the pot with glitter, ribbons, or stickers. Just don’t forget to paint the top two inches of the inside of the pot – this area will show even after the pot is filled.
  • Make Her a Photo Bouquet: Maybe she’s tired of carnations, or she has an allergy. Either way, if Mom doesn’t want live flowers in the house, you can brighten her day with these pictured-paper buds. To make this craft, cut flowers from colored construction paper. Glue copies of photos to the center of each flower, then decorate your creations with buttons, glitter, markers, or scraps of fabric. Create stems from green chenille pipe cleaners, and present your creation to Mom with a smile.
  • Create a Recipe Box: Does Mom love to cook? She would love a place to keep her recipes. Glue colored felt and art from old greeting cards to an empty cardboard box to decorate this gift for your mother. Add a recipe-styled love note to the inside of the box for a special touch.
  • Cook a Brunch: Throughout your childhood, your mother cooked you dinner. Now it’s your turn to take care of her: Make her brunch this Mother’s Day. Cook anything from down-home style biscuits and gravy to gourmet eggs Benedict; just be sure to consider her tastes. Go an extra mile to pamper her – let her sleep in on Mother’s Day. Serve her brunch in bed.
  • Have a Picnic: If Mom isn’t a morning person, skip brunch and take her on a picnic. Again, make food that she will like: If she’s a shrimp couscous kind of woman, go Greek; if she’s more traditional, whip up some Amish potato salad. Just be sure to pack your Frisbee, and try to keep the ants at bay.

Show your mother that you love her. However you choose to honor her this May, remember: She raised you. She deserves an award – she should always know that she is appreciated.

Great article about mother’s day. Picnics are a good option, especially with today’s economy.
