Celebrating Another Successful, Commercial Christmas

About christmas in my house.

My house reverberates to the thudding of drums. After five long years I have finally succumbed to my daughter’s longing for a drum kit. It’s only been a few days but I am already regretting it! The new CD system’s set up in her bedroom, the kit is assembled and Jasmine finally takes her revenge on the household and neighbourhood.

As for the other two kids, a Nintendo Wii purchased solely for the purpose of a Super Smash Brothers game has been played non stop downstairs for the past week. The screeching and screaming from my 16 year old girl, who should know better, has not been equalled since she first played Tomb Raider on Playstation.

When I was a kid our presents tended to be outdoors types – cycles, pogosticks, spacehoppers. Our parents could relax watching the ‘Sound of Music’ whilst our merry screams echoed around the vicinity. Not any longer, kids nowadays are confined to the house, the games they enjoy all seem to take place within a confined space, driving parents and neighbours mad. The only chance for peace and quiet being to take a long country walk in the freezing cold.

The final insult to my commercial Christmas is seeing that the drum kit has been reduced from £250 to less than £100!!
