Christianity: Conviction Over Logic?

Does the lack of religion within the school system really create a problem for you?

Recently someone posed a question to me that at the time, I didn’t put much thought into. The subject of “Satan” was being discussed on the radio, which prompted this certain individual to ask why such topics could be brought up on public broadcasting while religion remains separate from schools. He then proceed to say that there is something wrong with our country because of this.

I put some thought into it afterwards and came to the conclusion that Christianity is more than represented in everyday life. Christmas traditions are still taught and celebrated widely in schools across the country by people of all different creeds, ensuring that (however indirectly it may be) Christianity is undoubtedly present within the United States school system.

I’m not trying to shun any certain group for their beliefs. I too have my own, but prefer to keep mine to myself and feel that ultimately that’s the way it should be. Regardless of how I feel, there’s a reason why education and religion are separated. One teaches facts, while the other relies simply on beliefs. If what you’re looking for is the latter, than go to a church. That’s what they’re there for in the first place.

While separation of church is a great thing, And not to be taken lightly, kids pick up a wealth of info from their friends, and their own observations. Religion is probably the one thing that should NOT be presented in a one-size-fits-all style the way algebra, biology, and wood-shop are. So agreeing that schools should not teach it is one thing.

But keeping religion OUT of schools is ridiculous. Disallowing mangers, or menorah, or Christmas trees out of political correctness is a self defeating practice. Religion is present in the schools, and ignoring it the way sex is ignored presents opportunities for ignorance to dictate chance.

By the way, don’t take this wrong, but your title was misleading, I was expecting an entirely different argument over here. ;-)
