Christmas 2009 Ruined by Squirrels?
Christmas in US sabotaged by grey squirrels.
GREY squirrels are ruining 2009 Christmas in the US state of New Jersey by eating all the festive lights.
This Christmas isn’t the first to be ruined by squirrels. The past few Christmas’s have been ruined by grey squirrels eating the Christmas lights, well not all of them it seems, they seem to leave the red ones! Several Officials in towns scattered throughout the US say that these pesky rodents have developed a taste for the Christmas lights that decorate there street Christmas trees.
One official said, “”They seem to be very, very hungry and they like plastic and they like the LED lights and that’s all.” They tried to replace the lights with bigger ones, but alas, no results. This is a very different diet from the squirrels usual dried fruit and nuts.
However the trend in Christmas light being eaten has shown that the squirrels only go for the blue and white ones. They will take their time and eat through the bulbs of every light, except the red ones.
In our town however, we haven’t given up, we just keep putting up the red ones
