Christmas for The Street Children

Have you ever had a Christmas where there is no food in the table? Had a christmas with no lights in the house? They had.

Christmas. Everyone is waiting for Christmas. A time to give and receive gifts. Exciting. Christmas is for everyone. But not everyone is for Christmas.

One time I was in a gasoline station when a few kids suddenly came bringing with them some sound making instruments like cans, stones in plastic bottles, and old tambourines. They sang to me some Christmas songs in exchange of coins. Well, funny that these little kids know the tune of the songs but not the lyrics. Oh poor children. I gave them some bills and they run away.

As I was passing a bridge, I enjoyed watching the lanterns hanging on every post. Bright and glittering. A smile was painted on my face, but was erased when my sight was turned to children I caught sleeping on a corner. Christmas is on its way to come. Did they know about that? Or do they even know what the date today is? Or what time is it already?

Where will they put their foods for noche buena? They don’t have tables and not even a little home. How about some lights for the spirit of Christmas? They do not have doors or windows. But they are happy. Where those happiness did came from? Don’t they know how unlucky they were? That they are unfortunate? What makes them excited about Christmas? They don’t have family to celebrate it with. They don’t have rich friends to buy them gifts.

We have a lot of money. We have a lot to wait for this Christmas. Then I thought God is really fair to everyone. God is just. If there is something I have, that these children got as well, I think it is God. There is one thing I learned from these children. That Christmas is not about what we can have. It’s about what we already have. It’s God. It’s love. God indeed is the God of Joy. For even IN NO CENTS life there is Christmas. There is happiness. There is God.
