Christmas Gift Ideas for Grandparents and Elderly Friends

Grandparents and elderly friends are either down-sizing or already have everything they need. So what Christmas gift can you get them?

Coming up with Christmas gift ideas for grandparents and elderly friends can be a challenge.  Christmas gift ideas abound in television and newspaper ads, but the problem is that grandparents and elderly friends either have everything they need or they are at the stage of life when they want to clear out items, perhaps to move to a smaller, easier to maintain residence.  So in keeping with the gift-giving season, some of us need Christmas gift ideas on what to give our senior family members and friends.

Give the Gift of Your Time

To coin a Fred Flintstone phrase, “My get-up-and-go just got up and went,” as we age, our energy levels may decrease.  We have the desire to do things like we did when our bodies were more willing, yet we cannot quite convince these old bones to carry out the task.  That’s where the helping hands of younger people can help.  Giving of your time is one of the best Christmas gifts you can give to grandparents and elderly friends.

Christmas Gift Ideas From Adults

Take your toolbox and drill to visit your senior friend and ask what needs to be fixed.  They may want pictures hung, a curtain rod or blind fixed, a leaking faucet or running toilet repaired, or a squeaky door oiled.  If your friend doesn’t volunteer something that is in need of repair, look around for something.  Could be that your friend feels it would be an inconvenience for you; and if you think that might be the case, tell them that you are there to give of your time as your Christmas gift to them.

Replace the batteries in their television remote, smoke detector or other battery-operated devices.  Even if the battery is still good, you have extended the usefulness of the device.  You can use the removed batteries at home.  Granted, they are partially depleted but at least you have the knowledge and skills to replace the batteries when they are completely spent.

Prepare a hearty vegetable soup or other favorite soup of the grandparents or elderly friend.  Divide the soup up into individual plastic containers that can be frozen to provide the senior friend with a quick meal.  Write on the side of the container what is in it and how to microwave the contents.  Slow cooked beef or chicken, cut into cubes or bite size pieces and frozen in plastic bags is also an option.  These are Christmas gift ideas that keeps on giving.

A great gift for seniors this Christmas is the Just5 phone. In fact, I am considering shopping for two phones next week for my elderly parents. I heard that this phone is very helpful to seniors not only in terms of ease-of-communication but also in times of emergencies. Plus, we can cut the expenses we pay for the medical alarm system at home. I heard this from my best friend and I personally checked the phone at http://www.just5.com.
