College Halloween Costumes: Go Crazy!
College Kids nowadays have begun to partake in a halloween ritual that does not include trick or treating…
Halloween. Halloween is seen by most as a holiday where small children run around the neighborhood stuffing plastic pumpkin baskets full of trick or treat candy. Decorations galore transform suburbia into a kind of cheesy spook house. Parents an kids alike enjoy dressing up and going out for the holiday.

By the time kids hit middle school its seems to stop being “cool” to dress up any more for the holiday. Kids get a “Free candy” mentality and at this age I see many kids wearing their summer baseball uniforms, carrying a skateboard or just wearing all black and going as “the night”. Eventually the novelty of trick or treating and dressing up wears off completely… or does it?
Recently college campuses across the USA have exploded with Halloween spirit. Young adults have discovered a new found love for the dressing up aspect of the holiday! Costumes go from non-existent to amazing in just a few short years in these kids life. If you are privileged enough to live near a college campus, take your kids out trick or treating on campus! (Just keep a tight rope on them and go early or they might come back with a can of Natural Light in their trick or treat basket). Many colleges facilitate young trick or treaters and welcome them on campus during city trick or treat hours.
Here are some of the most extravagant and awkward College ”Ghouls” cited on Halloween in the past couple years… I don’t know if I would try to follow in their footsteps…

These guys are possibly Pirates of the Caribbean Oriented? I see a British looking Jeti, a Pirate wearing a Ralph Lauren shirt and a Somalian guy?

The Lion-Samurai-Converse-wearing-banana hammock- wearing- Secretary was an internet favorite last year.
College is all about prestige, learning and building a better future for yourself. I’m not sure how these guys got there…

I guess if you’re going to go all out, you should commit.

Another Internet favorite of last year, the pizza guy failed to deliver on this one. When costumes like these start coming out, It may be time to take the kids home.

Now that’s more like it! William Wallace from the movie Braveheart is a personal preference of mine! Dressing like the kid in the picture is not only invigorating (well, maybe not the kilt part) but it ensures you will indeed have a happy Halloween! No one can compete!
Whatever you decide to do for Halloween have a fun and smart one. Remember, if college kids can teach us anything, it’s you’re never too old to get into the holiday spirit!
