Create a Spooky Yard for Halloween

Create the most haunted yard in your neighborhood this Halloween with a few special spooky ornaments. Your ghostly creations will have trick-or-treaters hesitating before reading your doorbell.

A spooky lawn isn’t hard to achieve with a few unique ornaments. Make your house a haunted haven for little ghosts and ghouls by adding a few creative touches to your yard.

Haunted House

Create your own haunted house for little trick-or-treaters to tour in awe. A few cardboard boxes, an exacto knife, and a little paint can create a spooky castle or primitive old “shack” in your front yard. String Christmas lights or touch lamps inside for an eerie glow and provide your visitors with light.

Be creative when it comes to decorating inside your “house” — add a spooky picture painted inside with eye holes cut for someone to peer from the outside or a window with a witch’s tissue paper silhouette illuminated by electric light. Hang rustling strips of tarp inside and fake cobwebs, along with fluttering paper bats and white trash bag ghosts.

Ghosts and Ghouls

Rustling garbage bag ghosts may seem less scary dangling from your porch, but you can create a spooky ghost from grimy old cheesecloth. Drape over a balloon, then use stitches or paint to create a twisted face. Hang your creation from your porch or yard.

Spook your neighbors with a grungy scarecrow staked in the shadows or pumpkin patch. Old overalls, a little hay, and a burlap bag head will be enough to keep visitors leery when it comes to crossing your yard at night.

Lurking Monsters

Create a pile of eerie carved pumpkin heads on your porch. Use battery operated lights to keep them glowing the whole evening to greet visitors to your steps.

A fake gravestone made from wood or cardboard won’t go amiss on your Halloween lawn — especially with zombie arms poking from the grave. Make your own from wire and clothing arms stuffed with batting, fake gloves with fake nails protruding, and a little grunge and imagination.

Your yard can be a frightening sight this Halloween with a little time and effort. Make your house a scary place this year and impress visitors with your imagination.
