Decorating for Thanksgiving in Eco-Style
Decorating for Thanksgiving is something many people participate with. It adds a festive décor to your table and home when you want to bring the taste of harvest inside.
Many ideas abound to keep this Thanksgiving decorating as environmental as possible. Most of the suggestions are incredibly frugal at the same time.
-
Keeping it Natural
Fall is a wonderful time of the year to collect leaves that have fallen from the trees. You can find many different shapes, colors and textures on the ground this time of year. Scattering them on the kitchen table in the centre, or on a coffee table with something placed over it, looks so beautiful and so natural.
Fruits and vegetables can be used in this particular centre piece, and then you can eat the decoration as a way of conserving and reusing what you bought. Another natural selection is gourds; however I have never seen a gourd eaten. Gourds can be composted though. Dried corn, hay, and other farm materials such as the actual stocks that corn grows on, is a great natural solution for the decorator at heart.
-
Reusing Material Every Year
Many dollar stores abound with a variety of plastic leaves, fruits, vegetables, and even little horns and baskets you can place them in. Although plastic, as long as you wash them and reuse them other festive seasons, then it falls under the category of recycling.
Look around at second hand stores, or yard sales for fabric that is seasonal colors. Draping a piece of material over a coffee table, then placing a handful of leaves over it with a few harvest vegetables gives your home this warm harvest glow.
-
Swap With A Neighbor or Family Member
Try something different and ask your family or friends to swap harvest and Thanksgiving decorations so you feel like you are gaining a new look instead of buying more then you need too.
-
Craft Sale At Your Church
Ask your church if you can host a harvest craft sale, and let them know the theme is environmental. That items donated must be either made with natural items, and reused and recycled material. The money could be donated to others in need for a Thanksgiving meal.
Keep this Thanksgiving and harvest decorating season as environmental as possible, within your budget. Decorating for Thanksgiving does give you this uplifting feeling at home, and is so fun to do. Ask your friends and family to make a day out of it, or if you have children to participate with this activity.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and fruitful harvest season.
