Lego

You’ll need a cardboard box, paint, and 6-8 plastic or paper disposable cups.  Start by painting the box and cups your desired color.  To save time, use red paint red plastic cups.  Then, cut two arm holes from the sides and a neck hole in the top of the box.  Using superglue, attach the cups to the front of the box in two rows.  You may need to cut about two inches off the top of each cup depending on the size of the box.  If possible, make a candy basket out of legos, or carry a plastic lego storage bucket.

Christmas Present

This is one of the easiest costumes to make.  Start by wrapping a box with Christmas wrapping paper (look for cheap paper at a nearby dollar store; most carry Christmas paper year-round).  Cut out neck and arm holes, then glue on ribbon and add a bow.  You can also add a gift tag made from the cardboard of the bottom of the box.  Use a gift bag as a candy basket.

Pencil/Crayon

Start with a solid color sweatsuit and a party hat.  For a pencil, use a yellow or brown sweatsuit .  Use paint or markers to color the top three inches of the party hat black.  Color the rest white or light brown.  The hat becomes the “point” of the pencil.  If possible, wear pink shoes for an “eraser”.  For the crayon, use any color sweatsuit and a matching color party hat and shoes.  Using a black marker, draw an oval on the sweatshirt and write the word “CRAYON” sideways in block letters.  Crayons can be adorable costumes for a large group of children (have each trick-or-treat as a different color).  For a candy basket, enlarge a picture of a pencil or crayon box with a copy machine, then attach this picture to an empty cereal box.  Add a ribbon or yarn handle.

Tree

Start by making a number of leaf shapes from construction paper (for a fall tree, use red, yellow, and orange).  Wear brown pants (for a trunk) and a brown, green, or black shirt.  Attach the leaves to the shirt using double sided tape.  Place the leaves randomly, but be sure to cover as much of the shirt as possible.  If desired, add some extra touches to your costume such as a stuffed bird or carry a tree branch.
