Every Day is Valentine’s Day

True love is a year round phenomenon. Valentine’s Day is only a manifestation.

The young couple have found a cozy corner in the neighborhood park. It was a quiet spot where they could be alone and share their thoughts- and their love.

“The day is not far “he said.

“February 14 is coming up soon” she said.

“I will buy you the best I can” he said.

” I can’t wait for this day” she said.

” This day means everything to me” he said

” My favorite day of the year” she said.

Unknown to them as they cooed in the park, an older couple smiled and exchanged meaningful glances. She was withered with age but she supported her husband as he shuffled along . He was now bent low as many, many years had gone past since she had first met him as a strong young man. The star athlete in his school.

They had met at a school game and gone on to become the best of friends. As soon as he got a job they had married- without a care in the world. He worked hard and did his best to give her all that he could. His work took him to foreign lands, strange places, living with strange people. He remained steadfast in his love for her.

She took a series of jobs to keep herself occupied and provide for herself when he was away- which was often. The time came for him to return and they re-discovered each other. Both were well into their prime then. yet they saw the love they first had still very much alive for each other. The children came and as the years went by the children grew and started their own lives.

Now the two of them were alone again. There was an occasional call, a email from a grandchild and a present for Christmas. Not much more but they were happy because they still had each other.

The last few years had not been too kind for them. She was not as cheerful as before with age taking its toll. She felt tired very soon. She shuddered at the thought of a detailed medical investigation-fearing the worst. His years of hard labor had made him older than he was.

Their lives were full of sharing. They shared what they got. They shared their sorrows and disappointments. they shared the joys of being together. They shared the chores. They shared everything they had to give each other.

Hearing the young couple speak as they did, brought some amusement to their old eyes. “If only you know” she thought ” what true love means”. ” Love goes beyond Valentine’s Day” he thought. ” It is the reason for living- day after day- all through the year”.
