Lemon is a fruit with probably the longest list of positive effects on our health. Numerous books have been written on lemon as a remedy, while here, in this text, we will extract only a few important healing properties of lemon and some facts about this magnificent fruit.

The healing properties of lemons

Lemon significantly increases immunity, as it is a natural antibiotic that protects against bacteria and viruses. It`s acidity rejects harmful bacteria but, interestingly, it also attracts beneficial bacteria in our digestive system. Many diets recommend the lemon because it gives a feeling of satiety while raising energy to a tired body. Lemons have a slight effect on the liver, the digestion and the blood system, because they lower the cholesterol level. Lemon is also effective against heartburn. Citrus is usually not wise to be consumed for the heartburn, but if you mix a spoonful of lemon and half a glass of water to drink, the heartburn will disappear. Apparently, lemon will also help with menstrual pain.

How to eat lemons?

It is best to squeeze the lemon, store it in refrigerator and consume as desired. If you squeeze it every time you want to add a few drops of lemon juice in a salad you will quickly get bored with it. So it’s good to squeeze out a greater amount of lemon and then dissipate. Lemon peel has a sour-bitter flavor and can be added to cakes, while in the Mediterranean region even a lemon liqueur is very popular. Slices of lemon are added to the tea and other beverages for flavor, but we recommend the squeezed lemon (instead of adding a lemon slice) which comes with more flavor and healthful properties.

How to buy lemons?

Lemons can vary in sweetness,  and so they can in vitamins and minerals. So, how do you know which is sweet lemon? The first rule is to choose yellow lemon rather than the green one. Lemon, which is rich in beneficial substances will have a thin crust and an interior which is more rich and heavier compared to the same size of lemon that has a thick crust and is not so rich in valuable ingredients.

Lemon juice as a substitute for vinegar

If you want to increase the intake of lemon in your diet, first thing you should do is to replace the vinegar with lemon juice. You can also add lemon to your salad, because it will soften the food without changing it`s taste.

    Great! Our family was consuming lemon juice everyday in the morning, until my daughter had a severe stomach ache, which was doubted as a symptom of ulcer by the doctor, and she was advised to avoid lemon juice. We don’t know what was the cause of her stomach ulcer, but we stopped lemon juice from then.
