Festivals a Source of Real History
A festival or celebration is an occasion of unusual significance observable by supporter enthusiast and devotee to that religion or tradition. The collective celebrations are rotatory in nature and are celebrated on the fixed days seasons or dates of the lunar or solar calendar. An ordinary look on the human history makes us believe that man has been joyously celebrating the days from the very beginning.
There was no difference in the war or marriage ceremonies. The wars were fought less and celebrated more in the dark and medieval ages. There were drum beaters and bards invigorating the wild spirits in the warriors. It is said that these activities were the deciding factors for many a time in the war. The poets narrated the bravery of the warriors. The same spirit of celebration succeeded in the later generations of the man. Today man is enjoying the festivals and religious days with greater zeal and zest.

People celebrate their important events in different ways. Different communities celebrate their memorial moments individually and collectively . If we caste a cursory glance at the history of man we find that each and every occasion was celebrated in past. There was no difference in the war or marriage ceremonies. Ancient Romans have been celebrating the festivals of Ludi. Its resemblance today is with the May Day celebrations. It was celebrated in the name of goddess of flowers FLORA. Julius Caesar fixed the date of these celebrations from April 27 to May 3. The festival was celebrated with the theatrical events and the specialty of these performances was the mimes, naked actresses and prostitutes on the stage. Moreover the animals were set free and the beans were speckled for ensuring the fertility of the lands. The same Romans celebrated a day in the name of god Saturn on November 17 known as Saturnalia. There was school holiday sacrifices and exchange of presents on the event. The event was purely for enjoyment. Almost all kind of freedom even for the slaves was observed on the day.
Then we come across the Hindu civilization of the east. The ancient Hindu festivals are celebrated even today without any major change except the interference of modern technology. These include Diwali,and such other festivals. These religious and seasonal festivals are observed today with the same ancient spirit.
Although Buddhism resembles much with Hinduism but it has its own celebrations too. There are many common events between Sikhs and Hindus as ,Diwali, but some festivals are pure of Sikhs.
Christians also celebrate Easter and Christmas as the religious festivals along with other traditional days. There is lot of Greek and Roman celebrations observed by the Christians of the day. The collective festivals of Muslims are Eid ul-Adha and Eid ul-Fitr along with individual celebrations. Jewish religious festivals include Jewish holiday, this festival is always celebrated according to Hebrew calendar only. Other Jewish days are fast days and yum kapoor.
Along with these collective celebrations people of our age celebrate the birthdays of their near and dear ones. The death day is also observed with solemnity. Some celebrations have earned universal fame as the valentine day. The loving parents celebrate the first day of school of their cute baby. There are some world wide celebrations and events to observe especially announced and established by the United Nations organizations. All these are not only the days to revel but remind us the past and also some cause. A wise person can deduce ancient history of civilization by closely and keenly studying these festivals days and celebrations.
