Fright Night on Happy Trails

Mistakes people make on Halloween night and how to have a smoother night out.

Live in a cold climate? Might want to dress your little one as something warm. I allowed my kids to choose what they wanted to be for Halloween and didn’t realize they would later get so cold we had to go home early and change. Critter costumes at Halloweencostumes4kids.com carries a good variety of warm costumes or a super hero costume at buycostumes.com will provide plenty of warmth and costumeexpress.com has something for everyone even good O’l Rover just to name a few. It’s also a great idea to pack the trunk with extra jackets just in case it’s chillier than you thought whether in a cold or warm climate. I also let my goblins drink lots of liquids before we left so we didn’t have to carry water with us as an added weight on top of the pounds of Halloween candy we were to embark on. Monstrous mistake! A half an hour later we had to take a bathroom break. If at all possible keep them from gobbling down lots of sugar while out Trick-or-Treating, that can cause excessive thirst. I always make a nutritious meal before we head out for the night; it cuts down on the urge to gorge on sweet treats as well. Let’s face it, who hasn’t sneaked a Snickers or a Three Musketeers while out on Halloween night? And if your kids are anything like mine, pack extra candy bags in your car so when things get heavy you aren’t the one bagged down. Simply go to your car and trade the heavy bag for a new empty one.

Have fun!
