· Colonists brought the concept of the “pie” with them from England. There, the first pies were filled with meat.
· In 1651, a French chef included a recipe for pumpkin pie in his cookbook Le Vrai Cuisinier Francois.
· Apple pie was one of the recipe’s in the first American cookbook, written in 1796.
· On average, pecan pie has the most calories of any holiday pie (around 500 per slice).
· In Canada, pumpkin pie is usually served with maple syrup instead of whipped cream.
· Apple pie sees the most year-round sales of any variety.
· Other than apple and pumpkin, Thanksgiving favorites include pecan, cherry, coconut cream, and chocolate mousse.
· Mrs. Smith’s is best-selling brand of frozen pies. 

· Illinois produces the most pumpkins of any state in America. California comes in second and Ohio makes it in third.
· The largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed more than 2,000 pounds and was 12 feet in diameter. More than 900 pounds of pumpkin were used to make this dessert!
· More than 70 million pies are sold annually for Thanksgiving (this doesn’t include all the ones made from scratch).
