Gift Buying Guidelines for That &Ldquo;gone Green” Person Who Still Wants an Actual Gift

Are you having trouble finding the right gift for that person in your life who has “Gone Green”?
These guidelines just might help you out.

Biodegradable

If you get things that have the potential to be thrown out then make sure they are not going to be found by archaeologists digging them up in a landfill in a couple of centuries.

Organic

Greenies like things that have been produced as organically as possible because that is better for our planet. Why it is better could fill volumes of books and has filled volumes of books so when buying a present for a Greenie or doing your own shopping throughout the year look for those labels that say “Organic”.

Made in “whatever country you are in”

This is important because it reduces carbon emissions caused by shipping. If you really want to give your Greenie a trill if you bought them something fair trade from a distant land you can buy a carbon offset in their name to go along with the gift.

Handmade and Homemade Items

This can be things that you make yourself or purchase from local craft fairs. Buying from local craft fairs helps the local economy and reduces need for shipping.

Antiques and Used Items

Giving used things as gifts may seem odd and in bad taste to some people. Not to a true Greenie and if it is a gift that really speaks to a persons core being it won’t matter if it is used. Some people like antiques. Some people may actually be looking for an out of print book that would be really appreciated. Antique jewelry that is in good shape would be welcome by many people and not just Greenies.

A Non Gift That Comes With a Gift

If you are really unsure of what to get a Greenie and want them to have an actual gift to give them then call The World Wildlife Fund and adopt an animal in their name and if you get the right package you will have a plush toy version of the adopted animal to give them. The monies used by these donations go towards conservations efforts world wide. That is something any Greenie should appreciate.

No matter what gift you choose to get the Greenie in your life do so in a way that shows you know who they are. This is the most important aspect of gift giving regardless of the receiver. Happy Holidays!

Very helpful article Mark.I really don’t know many greenies! well not ones that I have to buy gifts for. This year I am not spending much at all. I am not religious and have no money, the holidays will be a time spent with family. I am baking cakes as presents though.

Mark, these tips will be helpful, I tell everyone not to buy for us, that we need nothing. That would be the best gift, but we will wind up with presents anyway, but most of them will be wearable or eatable.
