God I Love Christmas
I disagree with the common belief that Christmas is a time of joy and celebration.
Christmas is supposed to be a special time where you’re celebrating the birth of Jesus which is why it makes me laugh that so many of us who don’t believe in any of that still celebrate Christmas. But aside from that, it’s supposed to be a time of celebration that (most of the time) turns into a day from hell. People are up early so they’re more irritable, they eat too much, they drink too much and the whole family feel obliged to spend the time together and because people are in such close proximity for such a long time they start to irritate each other. Arguments break out easier because of the proximity but also because of the amount people have had to drink meaning it’s pretty easy for arguments to escalate into full blown physical fights.
There’s also the presents. You spend all your money on presents, try to forget about it until after Christmas and then when January arrives you’re more miserable that you would have been without Christmas. You start the next year drowning in debt. No wonder everyone drinks so much at this time of year. It’s all downhill really isn’t it? Plus, chances are, no one will like the presents you’ve bought them. Such a waste of time and money and you being miserable.
It also seems that once kids get past a certain age they’re dragged into the dark world of all of this. As a young child you’re wrapped in cotton wool, everyone pretends their happy and you love Christmas then when people realise you’re old enough or they want to make you suffer just as much you’re thrown into the deep end of depression and bleakness one Christmas. Rather than enjoying it you’re like very other adult who thinks it’s commercialized and full of debt. God, we may as well cancel Christmas.
So there’s arguments, debt, drinking and lies about Santa Claus. God I love Christmas!
