Halloween Costumes for Couples and How to Make Them

Halloween is always a big deal for my wife and I; coming up with matching costumes from year to year is a constant quest for us. Surely, we figured, there must be others out there as obsessive compulsive as we are about making an ass out of themselves every October.

So here are some that we have tried over the years and had success with, along with links to how you can make them yourself at home. Storebought costumes always seemed a bit like cheating; so much more of an opportunity to be original this way… So here are nine of our favorites. (click onto the purple captions to see how to make them)

Bear in mind that these are all family appropriate costumes, as we still have a bunck of little people running around. There are places online that have ‘grown up’ costumes, but as funny as most of them are, we’ll skip them.

Not all of the sets of instructions are exact or step by step in nature, but there is an assumption that we all have enough common sense to figure out the details.

Sally and Jack (The Nightmare Before Christmas)

Any time you get a chance to involve something ala Tim Burton in your Halloween, you’ve got a winner: ‘Sally Costume’ ‘Jack Costume’

Homer and Marge Simpson

This is a classic, and gives you the chance to run around and act like an idiot in the name of remaining ‘in costume.’

Cheech and Chong

Dude… if you’re going to a Halloween party with a buddy, this is (cough) the way to go.

Cardiac Arrest

Police Officer (him) Heart (her)

This is for those who have an appreciation for sarcastic wit.

Drew Carey and Mimi

Cleveland rocks.

Macaroni and Cheese

This one is a lot cooler than it sounds.

Pac Man and Ghost

This one is really time consuming, but it is so worth the effort.

‘High Maintenance’ (stoner and maintenance guy)

Hope this solves that annual dilemma for some….. enjoy the holiday.

One year he was the Ball and I was a Chain. We dressed the baby as a padlock, the girls were each a key.

It took a lot of crafting but we won first prize.

    Great ideas here.
