Happy Christmas?

Happy Christmas !

Have we all forgotton the true meaning of Christmas ?

It’s all about turkey, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, lights in the garden, beer,

fake snow ! ! .

What’s going on at all ? In the middle of a recession and yet spend spend spend – money we don’t have.

How many arguments rotate around booze during Christmas. How much money goes into curing a hangover.

How big is your television ? Why do we need to walk off an abundance of food or walk to create an appetite to consume an abundance of food.

Did you fall asleep because you were so stuffed

Or

Did you fall asleep because there was no food and you were hungry and your child never woke up because he was starving.

Did you watch Mammy and Daddy fight as you peered through the opening in the door  and did you cuddle into a ball in your bed scared that daddy would come into your room again ?

Where have we gone wrong ? Why is Christmas no longer a happy relaxing time. The media shows us starving babies with flies in their tears and we munch away as we watch.

Have we forgotten how to give and do we always expect to receive ?

Maybe this recession will finally knock us off our pedestals and open our eyes again.

Look around you, not at the television. Start to see the suffering on your own doorstep. Maybe someone who seems to have everything , has nothing. A friendly handshake may mean more to them  than a box of sweets. A smile may be all a person needs to brighten their day.

Christmas is a time of newness, a rebirth, a change.

What can you do to bring Christmas back to it’s true meaning.

Lets all have a think. Tomorrow and from now till next Christmas  do something worthwhile for another person every day.

Then 2010 Christmas might just be that much happier

Love, Friendship, Kindness, attention to other human beings, common sense – dont let it all slip away.
