Happy Mother’s Day

Usually I consult various resources to offer an authoritative voice on a topic, but I preferred this time to go with my first authority on this – my own mother.

Take the Triond Challenge

The Triond Newsletter challenges us to write an honor to our mothers, and it is not like there is a shortage of information on the topic, in fact there is so much information and so little time that I hesitate to tackle the topic not wanting to do it an injustice. If my article comes out well, I give all honors to my mother, if not, then I have only to apologize and state I love, respect and honor my mother tremendously.

Mothers Motivate and Inspire

In October of 2008 I was compelled to write  The Force Behind the Wright Brothers. because  I was moved by the inspiration Susan provided her sons with. She has graduated top of her class in mathematics and was a mechanic of sorts. Remember the time frame we are discussing. It was a time when women were content with being a wife and mother, but she was so much more. Every where these two men looked they were hit with doubters and criticism, except on the home front. There mother welcomed exploration. She would bring buggy parts into the home and allow her children to play with machine parts and see what they could produce. She encouraged reading and studying. She inspired. She motivated, and she trusted her sons to make the right decisions even if they made a few wrong ones on the way.

Mothers Encourage and Support

My mother was much the same in that she adored every poem and picture I ever created saving them for years. Her praise was abundant and the encouragement bountiful. She worked also, because my father’s pay check was not enough to support a family and the struggling business he was trying to create. While our father was often short tempered and unsupportive of us emotionally, Mom never showed the strain.

Mothers Instruct

Life had its rewards. Getting off the school bus daily we knew to prepare dinner and have it ready for our parents when they came in from work. (Our Mom taught us at an early age to cook, clean, and sew.) They both had factory jobs and would come in tired and hungry. Father would head out to his shop and work on car repairs for awhile and Mom would come in just as we were setting the table. After dinner she would go out to the shop and help Father while we cleaned up and sat down to our homework. We grew up without a television so did not have the added distraction.

BC, thanks, I plan on it. I wish you could meet her, you are a mother she would be proud of. When I read her my poem about her “Quiet Love” she cried. I hope I don’t make her cry again. Mom is so tender and modest.

Nobert, yes, let us salute mothers everywhere.

    Louie, thanks for your support.

Anne, thank you also for being the mother that you are, and for your kind support.

TT, you make every day special, not just mother’s day.
    Love, Grandma

Fornls, I wish it were true of all families. A mother’s love is quite remarkable and should be the rule, not the exception to the rule.

    Take care & G♥d bless.

Liane, I am so sorry for your loss. You must hate this time of year. What of your adopted parents? I do not want to pry, nor cause more heart ache, but am truly grateful your mother cared enough to give you life. It is a better world with you in it.

    Take care & God bless.

Liane, what a sad beginning. But I believe you have overcome it, you are a warm and lovely presence on Triond. Judy, you were so fortunate in your mother. This is a moving tribute to her as well as to mothers everywhere.
