Happy Mother’s Day
Usually I consult various resources to offer an authoritative voice on a topic, but I preferred this time to go with my first authority on this – my own mother.

We Sang through the Ghetto
While living on 118th Street in Harlem I would walk my children, to their day care, on 124th Street (just one block from the Apollo) in the morning. We would pass construction sites where men would yell out obscene things, so I started making the trip with a song in my heart. My children were 1 and 2 years of age, so they enjoyed a good song as much as I did. Because of my army background I would usually sing army songs with them. I would sing a line, and then they would repeat it. This would block out the boisterous voices of the men and occupy my children. We would walk into the day care daily singing. Truthfully, I think the men thought I was nuts so they decided to leave me alone.
She Came to Visit
Mom and I always kept in touch by phone and by writing but still there is something special about Mom’s hugs and having her with you. Although she had never flown before, Mom wanted in the worst way to come and visit the children and I so she some how scraped the money together and flew out to see me when I was pregnant for my third child. I took a week off from work to show her some of the many sights of New York. One of our favorite places was the Bronx Zoo. Here is a picture she took of my two youngest with me at the entrance to the zoo. I wish I could have had someone else take the picture so she would have been in it as well, but in my mind’s eye, I will always see her presence in everything I do.

Mom’s are the Best Artists God has Created
We are born a blank canvas, and our parents put much of their artwork into the creation that we become. Anything worth mentioning is because of the wonderful artist my mother is. We don’t come with manuals, although if you consult with some of the tips offered by Anne Lyken-Garner in her baby diaries series, you will think you have found a manual. Also our own BC Doan, or Icy Cucky as us old timers at Triond know her, has written some outstanding articles on child rearing. I would encourage you to check them out. She motivates with love and offers you her special advice from years of experience in parenting. Chan gives us insight from another perspective, as a child of a “wonderful mother” . Whether you are examining motherhood from the perspective of being a parent, or being a child, please take at least a moment to wish your mother and all mother’s a happy mother’s day. If it had not been for them, where would we be?
Happy Mother’s Day
Children can be truly challenging and also rewarding, but a lot of it has to do with our parents’ ability to love, nurture, guide, and inspire. For tips on making Mom’s feel special this mother day read:
How to Make Mom Feel Special: Shoe String.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! You are the best! I will always love, honor and cherish you!

BC, thanks, I plan on it. I wish you could meet her, you are a mother she would be proud of. When I read her my poem about her “Quiet Love” she cried. I hope I don’t make her cry again. Mom is so tender and modest.
Nobert, yes, let us salute mothers everywhere.
Louie, thanks for your support.
Anne, thank you also for being the mother that you are, and for your kind support.
TT, you make every day special, not just mother’s day.
Love, Grandma
Fornls, I wish it were true of all families. A mother’s love is quite remarkable and should be the rule, not the exception to the rule.
Take care & G♥d bless.

Liane, I am so sorry for your loss. You must hate this time of year. What of your adopted parents? I do not want to pry, nor cause more heart ache, but am truly grateful your mother cared enough to give you life. It is a better world with you in it.
Take care & God bless.

Liane, what a sad beginning. But I believe you have overcome it, you are a warm and lovely presence on Triond. Judy, you were so fortunate in your mother. This is a moving tribute to her as well as to mothers everywhere.
