Happy Shoppers = Better Economy
If everyone were happier and less stressed when they shopped in December…I believe the economy would surge.
Picture a grumpy man in his late thirties. We’ll call him Tim. He’s with his wife and kids strolling in the mall looking for Christmas gifts. Everyone around bugs the heck out of him. He wanted to go home about 10 minutes after getting there. You know the guy, right? So, I’m thinking that this ONE guy can infect a lot of people. He’s grumpy. He runs into people…and grumbles. He’s irritated with cashiers. Tim honks at people and cars in parking lots and on the streets. And every person he encounters is more likely to be in a worse mood afterwards.
It’s like the butterfly effect. This man “Tim” potentially can infect people all over the city, country, and world. His bad mood is like an airborne virus. Pretty soon he’s infected a few million people. And the economy starts tanking again and nobody knows the real truth. It’s because of Tim’s grumpy-ass attitute when he was Christmas shopping at the mall!
So, lighten up people. Try to remember WHY you’re shopping for your friends and family. LOVE is in the equation somewhere. Find the love again. Be happy that you’re heart is still beating! Be happy that there are people in your life worth giving something to.
Don’t be like Tim. When you’re out Christmas shopping…put a smile on. Help others. Hold doors open. Be courteous. Be patient. Don’t set a schedule. Stop and breathe once in a while. When you feel yourself being overwhelmed, take a break. Grab a warm pretzel or something.
And it is my belief that if more of us were happy shoppers that infected people in a GOOD way…that the economy would surge…and the world would just plain be a better place to be. If you shared this with everyone you know, you’d probably read about record gains in the stock market tomorrow. Or how peace talks abroad are showing signs of real progress. Or maybe how the hungry and the homeless numbers are decreasing due to good people and good organizations. Heck…the healthcare situation might even be figured out! Have a great Christmas!
Don’t be like Tim. Put a smile on before you head out for some shopping!
