Having Fun at Christmas Time
An article on the feelings of Christmas changing as we get older.

When we were kids, Christmas was the most exciting time of year. Presents, parties, you name it, we found everything just perfect. There was always that thrill of going to bed on Christmas Eve, that inability to sleep, and waking up at around 4am and patiently waiting for the clock to strike 6am when your parents said you could wake them. Of course, by “patiently waiting”, I mean sitting on the floor, rocking back and forth staring at all the gifts, fighting the urge to completely ransack the place and blame it on the dog… again…
As we get older, though, that thrill of Christmas slowly begins to fade and we no longer get that same thrill. It’s a hard reality to face when you realize that it’s gone, but what you need to do is find new ways to have fun at Christmastime. For example, one fun activity that is frequently enjoyed is Christmas Movie Marathon Night! This is where you (and maybe some friends) get to sit around and watch all your favourite Christmas movies. It may sound a little boring, but through in some homemade eggnog, Christmas baking, and a warm blanket to cuddle up in and you have a good time!
One more thing that you can still look forward to is the Christmas staff parties that your workplace throws. If you’re lucky, there will be an open bar and you will get to take pictures of your bosses doing incriminating things that you will be able to use as leverage when you go to ask about that promotion you’ve been dying to get. All in all, if you look hard enough and strike up every creative bone in your body, Christmas can be exciting again. Let’s not forget, Christmas is about spending time with loved ones, so if you have a brother or sister, leave that “kick me” sign home. Instead, tape a stick with mistletoe at the top above their heads and leave them scratching their heads when random strangers plant a wet one on them!
