The perfect Christmas gift has been bought and wrapped, all that’s left is the shipping. If you want the package to arrive on time and with as little hassle as possible, there are a few things to do on the mailing end of the Holiday package. Here are some tips for smart package mailing during the Holiday season.

27 Shipping Days Between Thanksgiving and Christmas

The public is kept aware of how many shopping days there are left until Christmas, but shopping days and shipping days are not equal. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, there are 32 shopping days, but only 27 shipping days. Plan ahead and ship early so the package will arrive on time.

Arrange for Free Package Pickup From the Post Office

Don’t want to stand in long lines at the post office during the Holiday season? Arrange for the package(s) to be picked up free of charge. Use the post office’s online website (ups.com) and calculate the weight and postage for each package to be shipped, print out the label, adhere it to the package and arrange for free package pickup from the post office.

If you absolutely must go to the post office during the Holiday season, go Tuesday through Friday, mid-morning or mid0afternoon to avoid the crowds.

Packaging and Shipping the Gifts

When using a recycled box as packaging, make sure to remove or black out all old labels and barcodes on the outside of the box.

If you are concerned that the shipped packaged might be left on the front porch while the gift recipient is at work, don’t send the package to the home address, send it to the work address.
